INTRODUCTION

            I just got out of prison!!! I wish I could bottle up this feeling and give it to all of the sad or spoiled people in the world because I know there are a lot of people who could use new starts in their lives. They need new starts because their lives got off track and mixed up from the way they lived or the way they are living right now. I hope some of you can get your new start without having to go to prison first, like I did.     

            Getting out of prison is a real rush! It is almost overwhelming. I’m lucky enough to still have my mom and she picked me up when they finally opened the gates and let me out. Our first stop was a perfect freedom flash when she whipped in the drive-thru at McDonald’s. We didn’t plan it, but it was a taste of freedom I can’t begin to describe to you. Unless you have been locked up, there is no way to describe what real food tastes like after being “gone” for a few years!

            I wanted to start this book immediately upon my release and I did. I wanted to spend my first year back in the free world with you so you can experience all the emotions and thoughts of an alcoholic/addict as he returns to the “free world.” Writing this will help me and I also hope it will help others. It might even help you help someone who has a problem with their life that they themselves cannot see.

            I am writing this book in hopes of keeping people from wasting their lives worshipping alcohol and drugs like I did for so long. Living with high self-esteem without drugs will lead us to true happiness which I think is everyone’s goal in life. Happiness or contentment, God or your Higher Power, whatever your religious outlook, the fact is we all live on one planet and it all boils down to the fact that most of us should have the same objectives. Hopefully this book will help us understand how to live and enjoy all of the things that many of us take for granted.
